The Centre for Research, Evaluation Resources and Development (CRERD) is a non-profit, non­ governmental organization concerned with improving the understanding and delivery of population and health services and environmental development in Nigeria and other countries in Africa. CRERD, led by Principal Investigator Dr. Elizabeth Omoluabi and Co-Principal Investigator Dr. Funmilola OlaOlorun, completed five rounds of the PMA2020 family planning survey in Nigeria between 2014 and 2018. Since 2019, Dr. Musa Sani Zakirai and Dr. Funmilola OlaOlorun are co-PIs of the project and Dr. Omoluabi is Senior Technical Adviser. The PMA Abortion module was added in 2018 to measure abortion incidence.  

 

Nigeria was one of three sites for development of the Womens’ and Girls’ Empowerment module. PMA Agile data were collected in three urban areas from facilities and clients.

La PMA utilise une technologie mobile innovante pour soutenir des enquêtes à faible coût et à rotation rapide permettant de surveiller les principaux indicateurs de santé et de développement. Les enquêtes sont remplies par des recenseurs résidents, téléchargées sur un serveur central via un réseau de données mobile, nettoyées et analysées. Les résultats sont diffusés peu de temps après.

Musa Sani Zakirai, PhD

A Demographer trained in Nigeria, Dr. Musa Sani Zakirai has been involved in both quantitative and qualitative data collection activities in Nigeria since 1990 . An excellent trainer, Dr. Musa holds a doctorate and master’s degrees in Demography and Social Statistics from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography from Bayero University, Kano. Musa has participated in survey and development of training activities with the Gates Institute of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He has combed every state in Nigeria on survey work with the National Population Commission or CRERD.

Funmilola OlaOlorun, PhD, MPH, MBBS

Dr. Funmilola OlaOlorun is a Nigerian-trained community health physician who is passionate about the health of women across the lifecourse. She is particularly interested in family planning, women’s reproductive health, women’s involvement in household decision making, intimate partner violence, and menopause, as well as how these events, situations, and phases affect women’s general wellbeing. She has a PhD from the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins University, and has been a co-Principal Investigator with the PMA/Nigeria team since 2014. Funmilola has also been involved in research collaborations with colleagues from several non-governmental organizations. She is currently affiliated with the Department of Community Medicine, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Olalekan Olagunju

Olalekan Olagunju is a Demographer and social statistician who has performed in social research roles for more than 7 years and he has excellent understanding of the dynamics of research management and administration in a developing country context. He has managed and contributed to the design, implementation, and publication of important social and health related studies in Nigeria. His background and experience has afforded him a skill set of leadership, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills that have further improved the quality of his work.

Oluwaseyi Olubayo has spent her life using her personal and career experience to optimise the efficiency of working in Organisations. She has over 17 years’ experience as an Administrator and Office Manager, and over 5 years of experience as an avid researcher with certificates from several countries like South Africa, Germany and Nigeria. Oluwaseyi currently works for Commerzbank in Nigeria where she lives with her husband and three children.
